In 2002, Leandro Silveira fulfilled his lifelong dream, he founded the Jaguar Institute IOP in the heart of the Brazilian Cerrado, directly bordering Emas National Park. Since then, he and his wife Anah, and now their 16-year-old son Tiago, have devoted their lives to researching and protecting the endangered animals. Every day they go for walks with the jaguars, let them climb trees in nature or go swimming with them. The need to house animal orphans, not just jaguars, is huge. The IOP also taking in monkeys, parrots, wolves, vultures, anteaters or tapirs. As a consequence the institute is constantly growing, Leandro is chasing from one construction site to the next. His son Tiago grew up with all these animals. Today, he shares his life through social media and has millions of followers. Leandro Silveira supports his son and is also active on social media himself. “People only protect what they know and love,” he says.
