Daniel Richter - My Life
an intimate, amusing but also competent portrait of Germany's most outstanding painter of his generation.
Between Punk and Pop culture – Daniel Richter. The charming artist has made it to the Olympus of the international art market. His paintings reach prizes up to 450.000 €. He is Germany’s most outstanding painter of his generation – interesting, lively and absolutely expressive. His artworks are glaringly shining statements. They were exhibited in Hamburg, Den Haag and Basel. His large-size oil paintings show ironically political pictures – composed with art historical, mass medial and pop cultural pieces. “To paint means to think!” he said once ago. For him it means also to bring his own position in this society into question- constantly.
In his artworks he addresses migration and deportation, despotism and daily sexism. Meanwhile he departed from his autonomic source and now he tries a balancing act between his political vision and the jet set of the international art scene. Again and again he has to justify his lifestyle- but it seems to bore him deathly. “Think a lot- paint a lot!” – nothing else matters.
Birgit Herdlitschke makes a musical journey with him trough his miscellaneous world. Always attended by tart comments of Daniel Richter himself. She visits him in his Berlin studio- therefore Daniel explains the content between his art and his personality. In Hamburg they will meet his professor Werner Büttner, who enabled Daniel Richter the admission at the University of fine arts. Today he is one of his biggest fans.
With “My Life” it develops an intimate, amusing but also competent portrait of Daniel Richter- with the help of companions and the charming artist himself.
